About Me
I have always been interested in people and what makes them tick, the way they look at the world and their motivations I had wanted to train to be a counsellor for many years but I was busy with my young son and my mother was becoming more needy so it was put on the back burner. Sadly, my mother died suddenly and, by that time, my son was no longer a small child so this gave me the opportunity to study at last. I enrolled on a BACP accredited course studying counselling and psychology which included working with clients who referred it themselves to the service – it definitely wasn’t easy but I persevered. After qualifying, I worked for Mind, in Alcohol Treatment, GamCare (for problem gamblers and their families), GP surgeries, colleges, prisons but now I work exclusively in private practice. I particularly enjoy helping clients overcome anxiety and depression. In my experience, this is frequently rooted in low self esteem and low confidence which is something I have experienced. It followed me through life, stopping me from taking advantage of opportunities, always believing I wasn’t good enough and that others were better than me – never having the confidence to believe that I could do anything I wanted. Feeling powerless when others disrespected me and believing that I deserved it. On day I decided – no more! I am very proud of who I am now and how far I have come and I love helping others to do the same. I don’t want anyone to miss out on life’s amazing opportunities because their self esteem or confidence is holding them back.
